The Ag Asset Maps assist a community in understanding and documenting the agricultural outputs of a region and helps identify where there is a critical mass, what the existing supply chain looks like, and if the area has an agricultural output that could be promoted for a unique market. The data in the detailed mapping program is drawn from the US Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Ag Census.
Once the page is open, scroll down on the left side to the Agriculture & Forestry tab. There you will find the following categories:
- Agricultural Commodities – includes all the crops grown in Indiana
- Livestock – includes all the livestock raised in Indiana
- IDEM Permits – the listing if permits for animal operations by county
- Cropland Area – an overview of all the crops grown in a heat map by state, county or region
- Cropland Dashboard – most current data of crops grown
- Indiana Hardwood – an interactive map of the primary, secondary and tertiary companies working in the hardwoods industry
Once you select a category you can view historical data, toggle off and on specific crops or livestock, and select a county to see the details of the crops grown and livestock raised.
